Surgical Simulation |
This highly interactive medical training system for minimally invasive surgery is based on computer graphics and virtual reality techniques(VR). |
It offers an alternative to conventional training methods such as plastic models and "learning-by-doing". |
Image algorithms and visualisation techniques are used to create the virtual environment; a realistic 3D representation of the anatomic situs is derived from 2D medical image data. |
The VR interface of the training simulators consist of two main components: 3D interaction to guide the surgical instruments and 2D user interface for the visual feedback and control of the training session. |
Thus an intuitive handling of the instruments is guaranteed and the surgeon is able to perform endoscopic techniques on the virtual situs before facing a real patient. |
