1st International Workshop on Cultural Heritage and Edutainment in Virtual Environments [CHEVE Workshop]

In the pursuit of greater knowledge, new technologies in computer graphics make new experiences possible. Advances in new technology pave the way for the designing of realistic interactive virtual learning environments. The didactical potential of such Cyberworlds is motivated with the Chinese proverb:

                  I hear -> I forget
                  I see -> I remember
                  I experience -> I understand

The endless potential of highly interactive virtual worlds lies in the unique ability to submerge the user in a virtual world. In such Cyberworlds the learning process can be supported significantly, because interactive activities allow complex data to be visualised and understood through practical experience. The challenge lies in the edutainment factor, which fascinates and entertains while being educational at the same time through appropriate learning experiments.

Computer Graphics Technologies for cultural heritage and edutainment not only guarantees the very important digital archival of this type of data, information and knowledge, but also these applications become both entertaining and instructive.

The workshop is designed to provide an overview of current R&D activities in this area and give insight into the different viewpoints from the industry, government, university and research. It will address important developments in the area of virtual environments for these application domains to implement some sort of “virtual travelling in time and space”.
